Usually yes but too much silicone applied on a gm truck oil pan will clog up the oil solenoid the feed tube and it’ll trigger a check engine light

I do the bead the way it's supposed to be, but I do flatten and smooth it with my finger before applying. Not as much as the second clip, but also never seen it leak. More even mating, helps cover up any marring from removal as well.

It has a much lower chance of producing a seal. When I did my training with Ford they said to look at the silicone. If it gets stretched or smuggled the colour changes. It becomes a dull colour instead of its usual glossy look. Once that happens it won’t produce a perfect seal there will be cracks in the silicon either resulting in leaks immediately or a lower lifespan.

The only issue with adding heavy silicone is if some of it dialogues and gets stuck in the oil pickup tube it can starve bearings of oil had a buddy lose a motor like that.

and to much silicon can cause oil starvation if the silicon makes it way to the pickup and other oil gallys you can see the silicon being pushed out the outside of the pan but a whole lot more can be pushed into the pan and brake off

Not much for silicone. I use gaskets and Permatex or Indian Head, depending on what I am doing
