Why do people still thinks it's a good idea to have trees next to or in the middle of streets? We have a 3 block stretch that has trees in the center and the roots pushed thr concrete up the whole way it just seems so stupid to me people don't think of this before hand

Roots are dead. It would’ve been cut down eventually. I’ll never understand why trees are allowed to grow in surroundings like this. There’s not enough soil for the root system to thrive. The mature size of the tree has to be considered when planting or allowing the tree to stay. Oak trees have a very weak root system and shouldn’t be allowed to grow in areas that don’t have much soil.

they need to stop planting trees in a 4x4 square, look at that base, it's basically rotten. they just planted a bunch in G. R. Michigan 4 years ago, same things going to happen.

That's not the wind it was an old tree you can see the it's roots already have the sidewalk cracked and open. With all the weight it was just a matter of time. Gladly noone was around and got hurt just that truck it got.
