One of the big things more experienced runners told me was to not spend too much time at aid stations, and my crew absolutely understood the assignment. I allotted for 5 minutes max at most of my crew stops and they had me out of there in half that each time. I was so impressed with how organized and efficient they all were since most of them have never crewed an ultra before. My amazing crew chief Katherine had everything so organized and had a checklist with specific jobs for each person that they went over before i arrived so everyone knew exactly what to do. They also had someone waiting at the start of the aid to see when I was coming so they would all be prepared. I would also grab everything I could out of my vest on the way in so I could hand it right to them and they wouldn’t have to waste time digging around in my vest. Everyone kept the energy high, did their jobs so well, and had anything I could ever need in seconds. They also all knew my pacing and let me know how far ahead I was on my planned pace as well as cutoff times. The biggest issue we had was getting my 800ml bottles back into my vest each time. If you want the best shot at finishing your first Ultra I highly recommend picking an organized and efficient crew that can keep your crew stops as short as possible. #Leadville100 #Leadville100Ultramarathon #Ultrarunning #Ultramarathon #ColoradoRunning
