@bigdawg_rn: NCLEX pharmacology strategy for when you have NO IDEA what the medication is. First, don’t panic. You may still be able to answer the question using NCLEX test taking strategies. If it’s a single answer multiple choice question, look for answer choices that are saying essentially the same thing. If two options would both have to be correct for the same reason, that can be a clue that neither is the single best answer. This is a strategy, NOT a guaranteed rule. Then look at the question being asked. If it says “requires further education,” you’re looking for the UNSAFE or incorrect statement. In this question, even if you didn’t know anything about azathioprine, option D should immediately concern you: “If I miss a dose, I’ll take two doses the next time.” You should NOT independently double a medication dose after missing one unless specifically instructed to do so. Follow the medication’s missed dose instructions or contact the appropriate healthcare professional when unsure. The NCLEX is testing safe entry level nursing judgment. When your content knowledge runs out, use test strategy to help you identify the safest answer. But remember: test strategy supports your content knowledge. It doesn’t replace it.
