Your comparing a young untrained Luke to an older more wise Luke. Who has been in contact with Yoda, Obi-Wan and his father. Not only did most people say this wasn't Luke but Mark Hamil himself said he argued with Rian Johnson about the way he was portraying Luke. I’ve never seen a worse character regression than Luke’s in The Last Jedi.

30 YEARS of knowing his flaw knowing he reacts with out thinking the exact story arch he goes through and learns from in ROTJ and then what he a monk a never worked on it that’s the issue every defender skips yeah it makes sense if this movie was 1 year later if 6 months and he’s still learning to be a jedi and control his emotions not 30 years of being one

I'm still not thrilled with that scene, but that's really the least of it. The real problem was his decision to quit. FWIW, I didn't care for flashback approach in TLJ, regardless of the depiction. SW had a very distinctive narrative style up to that point and flashbacks just don't fit.

Luke AT THIS POINT OF HIS LIFE would NOT try to KILL HIS NEPHEW! He learns this in the fight with his Vader he THROWS THE LIGHTSABER down and says IM A JEDI LIKE MY FATHER BEFORE ME‼️BAD WRITING BAD LUKE! Absolutely RUINS Luke Skywalker
