@ugandahistoryarchives: 1964: UGANDA CELEBRATES THE ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE President Mutesa II, Vice President Nadiope III, Prime Minister Obote Uganda celebrated the third anniversary of its independence on Saturday October 9th 1964 with a spectacular military display in the capital, Kampala. Uganda became a fully independent member of the commonwealth on October 9, 1962 with the sovereign status being granted by the Uganda independence act. The president Edward Mutesa, who is also the kabaka of Buganda, took the salute as units of the Uganda army paraded, before cheering crowds of thousands massed in the capital. A flight of jet fighters preceded a colorful fly-past of light aircraft, towing the flag of Uganda, to symbolize its emergence as an independent nation. The nation is ruled by a coalition government of the Uganda Peoples' Congress (UPC) and the Kabaka Yekka group, which took office immediately following the first election . #ugandatiktok🇺🇬 #fypシ゚viral #UgandaHistory #archives

Corrections to some untruths in the caption; first of all the third anniversary would have been in 1965. In 1964 that was second anniversary. Uganda became member of the commonwealth in 1963 not 1962. In sixty two it gained independence with prime minister as head of government but queen was still the head of state represented by the governer
