@katiealizeart: Savior Complex | 100x120cm original This piece came from thinking about what happens when caring for people turns into feeling responsible for them. There’s a point where helping stops being healthy and starts becoming a way of carrying things that were never yours to carry. You convince yourself that if you try harder, give more, or sacrifice enough of yourself, you can somehow lead someone to the version of them you believe they can become. The layers of red and black reflect that tension for me, the pull between compassion and exhaustion, love and control, giving and losing yourself in the process. Sometimes the hardest thing to accept is that being there for someone is not the same as saving them. Sometimes the need to save others is just another way of avoiding ourselves.
