@africanplantresearchcent: Indigenous Plants of Western Kenya and Their Luhya Names The Luhya people occupy one of the most biodiverse regions in Kenya. Situated between Lake Victoria, Mount Elgon, the Kakamega rainforest, and the Rift Valley highlands, western Kenya forms the easternmost extension of Africa's tropical rainforests. This unique landscape supports a rich diversity of indigenous plants. Unfortunately, many of these species, together with the traditional names used to identify them, are slowly being forgotten. By documenting local plant names, we help preserve both biodiversity and cultural knowledge for future generations.
