As for crime, California is 6th highest in violent crime. Can there be work done? Absolutely. But to be the most populous state and only be 6th I think is reasonable. The states that are 1st through 5th for violent crime: Alaska, New Mexico, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kansas/Louisiana (tied) - 4/6 of these are Republican Governors.
