It's a fictional tv show written with Don as the lead character. Real world life situations do not work this way.

What’s unspoken is that you need to be in a strong strategic position first, charisma comes after

Ya, I get it but he could afford to be chill because he had the ace in his pocket - no contract, and knew they needed him. Most of us don’t

Didn’t hurt that Pete warned him ahead of time. So Don had plenty of time to prepare.

In the show Don is a coveted asset others want to hire desperately, he can afford to walk away..sometimes charisma will not be enough to keep your job…

You’re forgetting one major point about Don Draper and that’s he’s been through so many worse things and he knows how to walk away by being someone else and let’s not forget, leaving when things get tough is what he does best

Don had the authentic confidence to do this, which what makes this strategy effective. It can't be for show, it's something you know-know about yourself. It's a great example but there's deeper personal work to make it happen like this.

Except do had no contract. He had an enormous leverage which is why he felt in control the whole time. It wasn't a metaphor for control, he had no control over Don period.

Great scene yes. BUT - fact check- From a position of authority or power yes this is brilliant! For for top sales people, execs, partners etc this works very well. For most people who have to influence without that, this will rarely if ever work.

I literally just had a sit down with 3 "superiors" 🤨 and unknowingly did this 2 days ago. The closing response i received was " You're very well-spoken. What did you do before this?". THE WILLINGNESS TO STAY ON YOUR PATH will always trump whatever pathetic power move illfitting suits stuffed with corporate mayo-based brunches think their idea of an accomplished day is defined by. BE YOU. UNAPOLOGETICALLY. RUTHLESS, IF NEEDED. BE WILLING TO STARVE AND FREEZE MORE THAN THE NEXT GUY... eventually they will break and you will have already prepared for it.😉 nothing more satisfying than watching someone fold on their own CALL.😁
