My thai friend basically get easily darker if they don’t put much whitening cream + sunscreen on top of it. Cause dark colors are more likely get warmth faster than a light color.

Bro listen, they do this in asia, it has absolutely nothing to do with racism, it has to do with beauty standards. These are not the same thing

It's not only in Thailand 🇹🇭, India, Bangladesh and so on...They hardly use their black skin people in their movies and commercials

The colorism in Thailand started because of the popularity of K pop culture. It’s really too bad cause the darker skinned Thais are just as good looking and they didn’t even know it.

Sadly, there’s colorism all over the world and every community. Blacks, Latinos, Asians, and Hispanics have always been colorist. Everyone wants proximity to whiteness.

That's funny. Centuries ago, dark skinned people where the first, all over the world. Wait until they realize their true ancestors are.

i’ve talked about this before and it’s weird because whenever you call out racism or colorism in Thailand, people are quick to dismiss your experience by talking about the intentions of the person who said it without validating the person who actually went through it. I’m sorry you experienced this and you’re not alone and I hope you never have to experience this again. I also apologize for the comments that are dismissing your experience because you are completely valid to feel the way that you do.

Its a class thing there I believe. Lighter skin is associated with wealth and being indoors. Darker skin with working outside and more poor. Still wild though. Their natural skin is beautiful

back in the days if you didn’t have to work in the sun your skin stayed light so lighter skin has been associated with higher status for this reason and it got internalized for generations

As a Thai,I was too suffer to be dark skin when I was young but now I’m so proud, I always go to take sun bath and this trend is growing up in Thailand slowly.
All south east asian countries kinda have the same Beuty standards . Funny thing is most western people have it the other way :)

My Thai wife informed me it’s social classism. Darker skinned Thais are associated with the working class, in particular those working outside and get a lot more sun. The whitening creams aren’t about trying to appear more Caucasian, it’s about looking more like the Thai upper class who are fairer skinned by nature of being more protected from the sun and using more expensive skin products.
