Regulation doesn’t mean calm. It means staying connected to yourself inside intensity. I cried. I screamed. I shook. Then I came to stillness, compassion, and self love. From there, I chose one aligned action. This is somatic work in action and something that is an integrated part of my practice and my life. I always joke that my nervous system is my most expensive asset. It’s what I’ve invested the most time, energy, effort, and money into, and that investment has changed my life. Because the more capacity I have to stay with myself through intensity, the less automatically I’m driven by old patterns and protective responses, and the more consciously I can choose how I want to meet my life. Regulation gives us back choice. And choice is where our power lives. ✦
