@throughthefire1212: August 5th, 2026. Indonesia 🇮🇩 Between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The Eruption of Anak Krakatau continues with ash emissions rising up to 50k ft (15.2km). History - The original krakatoa eruption back in 1883 was the loudest sound in recorded history. Imagine an explosion so violent it literally wiped out 70% of the island and sent a shockwave around the world seven times. It broke eardrums 40 miles away and sounded like cannon fire all the way in Australia 3,000 miles away. It disrupted the global climate and left the world with blood-red sunsets for years. For anyone confusing Anak Krakatau with Krakatoa: Krakatoa was the volcano that produced the catastrophic 1883 eruption, destroying most of the original island and forming the caldera that still exists today. Much of the caldera is underwater, with its rim represented by the surrounding islands. Anak Krakatau means “Child of Krakatoa”. It's a new active volcano that began growing within the 1883 caldera. Eruptive activity was first observed in 1927, but the early islands were repeatedly washed away by the sea. The present island eventually emerged above the water and continued growing into the active volcano that we see today. 🌋
