I used to work on a stabilization unit in a psychiatric hospital. We could never keep on news stations or court tv because the people with severe mental illness with active psychosis would get so agitated and antagonized by the coverage. It put bad things in their already disjointed way of thinking and they would start thinking people were telling them to do things or develop misguided conspiracy theories that people are out to get them. This was in the early 2000s before smart phones, constant social media coverage, etc. As technology continues to grow and we have this constant ongoing access to coverage, it’s going to really throw fuel on the mental health crisis fire. Not sure there’s much that can be done about it, just a sad observation I’ve noticed working in the field. The paranoid are becoming more paranoid and increasingly agitated bc there’s no escape. It’s just a never ending loop
