@l_ll977: THE KILLER CLOWN: THE DARK STORY OF JOHN WAYNE GACY John Wayne Gacy seemed like an ordinary and successful man living near Chicago, Illinois. He ran a construction business, was involved in his community, and sometimes dressed as a clown named “Pogo” at children’s parties and charity events. But behind this public image was a horrifying secret. Between 1972 and 1978, Gacy murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men. Most of his victims were killed inside his home, and many were concealed beneath the house. (Biography) The investigation finally began to focus on Gacy after 15-year-old Robert Piest disappeared on December 11, 1978. Piest had told his family that he was going to meet Gacy about a possible construction job. Police began investigating Gacy and noticed several contradictions in his statements. They eventually obtained evidence connecting him to Piest and started watching him closely. On December 21, 1978, police arrested Gacy. During the investigation of his home, authorities discovered evidence that revealed the terrible scale of what had happened there. Gacy eventually confessed to numerous murders. (HISTORY) In 1980, Gacy went on trial for 33 murders. His defense argued that he was legally insane, but the prosecution argued that his actions showed planning and awareness of what he was doing. On March 12, 1980, the jury found him guilty of all 33 murders. He was sentenced to death. (Justia Law) Gacy spent the next fourteen years on death row while his appeals continued. On May 10, 1994, John Wayne Gacy was executed by lethal injection in Illinois. His case remains one of the most notorious criminal cases in American history—not only because of the number of victims, but because of how successfully he maintained the appearance of being an ordinary, respected member of his community. The most disturbing part of the story was not the clown costume. It was the fact that, for years, almost nobody knew what was happening behind the doors of his house. #horror #monster #viral #story #murder
