It's been like this for years, companies want to hire someone with 10 years of experience but don't want to hire and train an entry level engineer for 10 years.

Before the Government took over student loans you had to go to a bank for a loan and they would tell you about your chances of getting a job in that field

Your theory may be true for computer science and engineering. The other engineering fields are still in demand and still well paid.

colleges aren't in the business of predicting the labor market. they're there to give you the degree you ask for.

my college "guaranteed" engineer's first jobs would pay $80k+ & we'd all be making >$100k within 4 years of graduating... its been 4 years. most of my engineering friends aren't even making $80k

College is not for creating cheap labor. It’s there so businesses don’t break the law by discriminating.

aerospace engineering has high underemployment and unemployment rate compared to other degrees but it is transferrable skills. a lot of quants and other technology related roles have engineering backgrounds

They do the same thing for public service jobs like teaching and social work while not being honest about the burn out rate.

This is also the same with the therapy, teaching and social work fields but the issue isn't entirely on the college but it's also the licensing boards that are requiring this to sit for the certification tests. Not only are you not being paid but then you have to deal with the possibility of having a bad field placement with the threat of dismissal hanging over your head.

Isn’t that showing the lack of demand though. It has to overpriced for them to cause an influx of people in it.
