You can live in nyc off of nothing but you can enjoy it once you make $300,000 I think

My first year in nyc I made a grand total of $23,000 after taxes and it was ROUGH but I managed. Was living off 50k for a while too doing pretty good. Making much more now but it’s possible!! You don’t need 100k.

$200k if you want any kind of normalcy in your life, $250k if you ever plan on taking a vacation, having kids, or retiring.

Raised 2 boys on UWS. Annual household spend (avg) = $351K all-in (i.e. car, garage, mortgage, maintenance, vacations, travel sports, 529s, IRAs, eating out 2-3 x per week). $500K if you do private school.

Yeah but quality of life is important. You don’t have to be loaded to live here but no one should be living in survival mode either

Been in nyc for 21+ years. Never made more than $30k until relatively recently and I always got by and had fun. The people saying this just aren’t creative in what they do or know where the fun free shit is.

Yeah but imagining living in Texas and not having to slum it. you can get a 1000+ sq ft apartment for less than 1500

They’re lying but you need about $200k+ to live alone and comfortably in this city. “Fine” is not the goal, it’s comfortable

they said live COMFORTABLY which still doesn't need 100k but that is an essential part of the equation here.
Slamming it is not comfortable. Needing to have roommates is not comfortable. Not being able to go out when you want is not comfortable.
Not being able to take a vacation without going into debt is not comfortable.
