And that's not even touching on the politics and interpersonal drama. Don't get me wrong - I'm fully aware I contribute to this noise and have mixed feelings about it. When I first started pole... The online pole community was mostly just about exactly that.... Pole dancing and connecting with each other. It wasn't drama free but there was less noise and pressure around our training. It did come with higher injury rates, less safety and less effective training though, I'll admit. Now there's so much pressure to do everything and do it to a high standard. And frankly if you're training to an advanced, or even elite, level then you'll need to be training like a pro athlete. All of this IS important. But we've forgotten that most students at the studio are casual. It's a hobby. They do it for fun, to get a little extra movement in and make friends. There are so many reasons someone may not be able to commit to a higher level of training. It's the job of instructors to meet students where they're at and structure our classes so they're safe and appropriate for the level of commitment our students can give. Not just roll our eyes and wag our fingers because they don't want to be training 10 hours a week on and off the pole. As a student it can be hard to know who to listen to, what to trust and what is important to our journey... My advice is to take what resonates, work with highly experienced instructors and just enjoy yourself!! #beginnerpole #beginnerspole #pdbeginners #pdbeginner
