If all I/we do is teach, without getting paid, we are losing the time that we could be working with clients or marketing our businesses. Personally I have multiple ways I try to do this. I’ve made the short-form video course for photographers because after 5 over an hour long conversations with different photographers about how to do it, I saw there was a need for it. (I did not charge for this phone calls. So that’s 5 hours I didn’t work on my business) I made a cost of doing business/how to price yourself tool because I have spent multiple coaching calls telling people how to do it. I also made a free video on how to do it using that tool. I offer one-on-one coaching. I’ve hosted workshops in my studio. …but all of that is time that I could be spending working on my business or working with clients. I run a business. My time is valuable. If I didn’t run a business, my time would still be valuable. That’s time I could be hanging out with my wife and dog, practicing karate, playing music, cooking, or hell…just relaxing. That’s why some of us monetize what we know. We aren’t obligated to do everything for free (but a lot of us give a ton for free as well)
