On September 3, a section of the flood protection dike on the Mulan River near Putian collapsed due to water overflow. Inundating villages and an industrial zone, the water forced the evacuation of 1,261 people in the Chengxiang District, along with 171 residents in one of the local villages. In Huating, over 100 homes collapsed, and several people are reported missing. In Xianyou County, the floodwaters destroyed two historic bridges: the over 1,000-year-old Taiping Bridge and the 800-year-old Jinfeng Bridge. Rainfall in some areas broke 65-year records. On September 4, a red alert for heavy rain remained in effect, with localized precipitation expected to reach up to 250–280 mm within 24 hours.
