Spend 30 minutes setting Claude up properly and every answer instantly gets less generic. If Claude keeps giving you bland, generic responses, the answer probably isn’t a longer prompt. Set it up properly once and it starts working more like you. First, open Cowork instead of normal Chat. Turn Extended Thinking on, select Opus 4.8, then connect Claude to your folder before you start typing. Create one main folder called Claude Work. Inside it, create four folders: About Me Projects Templates Outputs Inside About Me, add three files. about-me.md Write what you actually do day to day, what you’re working on, your responsibilities and how you use Claude. Not your CV. my-voice.md Add your tone, how you normally write, phrases you never use and two or three examples of things you’ve actually written. my-rules.md Add the rules you want Claude to follow every time. Things like: ask questions first, show me the plan, never delete anything without approval. Then go to Settings → Cowork → Edit Global Instructions. Add something like: I’m [Name], [Role]. Read my files before every task. Ask questions before executing. Show me a plan first. Never delete anything without approval. That’s basically it. Stop rewriting massive prompts every time Claude gives you a bad answer. Stop skipping the folder setup. And stop using Chat for tasks that actually need Cowork. Claude can’t understand how you work if you’ve never given it anything to learn from. Most people are still typing huge prompts every single time they want a decent answer. This setup means Claude already knows the context before you even ask.
