Africa knew it was 14 times bigger. The world took 450 years to admit it. 🗺️ Africa never needed a map to know its size. Farmers know the land they walk. Traders know the roads they travel. A continent that holds 54 countries needs no cartographer to confirm its scale. For 450 years, the world drew Africa the size of Greenland. Mercator's 1569 map was built for sailors — but it stayed in classrooms for centuries, quietly shrinking the equator and inflating the north. The UN calls it "symbolic minimization." This week's resolution is blunt: the distortion didn't just mislead — it shaped how generations understood Africa's weight in the world. It served a story, not a sailor. This week: the UN voted 164-1 to correct the map. The AU: "the world map finally reflects Africa's true scale, weight and place in the world." The US cast the only no-vote. But the economic map is still Mercator. Africa grows 70% of the world's cocoa and keeps 15% of the value. Raw cashew leaves at $1,500 a tonne and returns at $8,000. The map lied for 450 years. The export ledger still lies today. 30.3 million km² — bigger than the US, China, India and most of Europe combined. 60% of the world's unfarmed arable land. The youngest workforce on Earth. A $1 trillion agriculture market by 2030. This is what true size actually means. Correcting the economic map needs no UN resolution. It needs owners. The diaspora sends $100 billion home every year and owns almost none of the map it could draw. You don't have to come home to draw on it — build with people already on the ground. Experience Africa differently: working farms, vineyards, founders, culture, connections. — Sources: UN News / BBC / NPR / Guardian ("Correct the Map" resolution, 164-1, US lone no-vote, "symbolic minimization", Equal Earth) · Reuters / Visual Capitalist (30.3M km², 14× Greenland, fits US+China+India+Europe) · ICCO (cocoa 70/15) · World Bank/Punch (cashew $1,500→$8,000) · FAO (60% unfarmed land) · UN OSSA ($100B diaspora) · AfDB ($1T by 2030) #AfricaMap #TrueSizeOfAfrica #NigeriaAgriculture #SokanFarms #BuildBackHome
