Why do they put the lower unit drain behind the prop? Makes zero sense. We have. 60 merc and a 75. The 60 is external and the 75 is inside 🤦🏻♂️

I had the exact same Mercury 150 and 4 years ago I was going to my cabin from my fishing spot in northern Minnesota and the motor basically internally crumbled. Metal on metal. The repair estimate was $12,000. I junked it for $1,500 and bought a new Yamaha 150. Never looked back. Mercury is junk.

I change my oil fuel filter and lower unit fluid every year for $65 and one hour of time lol. Spark plugs take about 20 minutes and cost about $35-$40

I’d recommend dielectric grease tho antiseize can bond between the plug and head due to metals. Lots of mercs are going aluminum heads nowadays

make sure the old oil filter ring does not stick to the motor when replacing I found out the hard way.
