He became the leader of the Shikak tribe after the death of his brother, Jafar Agha, in 1905. After World War I, Simko became increasingly influential in the areas around Lake Urmia and led several uprisings against the Iranian government between 1918 and 1922. He supported the idea of establishing an independent Kurdish administration. For this reason, some historians consider him an important figure in early Kurdish nationalism, while others emphasize his role as a tribal leader involved in regional power struggles. Simko was also associated with violent incidents involving Assyrian and Armenian communities, making his historical legacy highly controversial and subject to different interpretations. After his defeat in 1922, he left the region. He later returned to Iran and rebelled again in 1926. In 1930, he was killed in an ambush during a meeting with Iranian government officials.
