@explaining.quran: According to the Qur’an, Jesus (ʿĪsā) is deeply honored as the Messiah, a prophet, and messenger of Allah, but he is not God. The Qur’an explicitly rejects the belief that “Allah is the Messiah” (5:72) and warns against saying “Three” (4:171). It quotes Jesus saying, “Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord” (5:72), affirming that he called people to worship the one God. The Qur’an also says that Jesus and his mother Mary ate food (5:75), emphasizing their humanity. Muslims therefore believe in Jesus, love and respect him, and accept his miraculous birth and miracles—but worship Allah alone, the one God.
