Ok, so if I drop my performance, how long before I'm eligible to bring it back up so I can get the bonus? How many cycles a year can I do this?

One lesson I teach my employees, consistently give 85%. When it's hero time, give 100%, but if you're giving 100% all the time you can never step up to make a miracle happen.

I remember this from school. As a "pleasure to have in class" student I was largely ignored whereas the poor students and trouble makers got so much praise for doing the bare minimum occasionally 🙄

When covid vaccines became widely available and my company wanted to begin a return to office, people who were already vaccinated had to return by early September and people who hadn’t yet gotten vaccinated had until mid-October to get vaccinated and return to office. As soon as it was announced in a team meeting I immediately raised my hand and said “I guess I’ll be the one to say it….we all love working from home and it feels like those of us who have done the right thing and gotten vaccinated are being punished and those who haven’t are being rewarded and I really don’t think that’s fair. If I’d have known I’d get an extra month and a half of working from home, I would have held off on the vaccine!” Luckily the rest of the team nodded in agreement and my supervisor said I wasn’t the only one who felt that way and she’d run it up the ladder. Thankfully upper management actually listened and amended the RTO date for vaccinated workers by the end of the next day

I covered for a person I supervise for personal family stuff for a month. I took one singular day for also “personal stuff” and didn’t hear the end of it for 2 weeks. Just got told same co worker will now be getting 3 days off per week while I will now be getting one per week. I’m looking for a new job after 20 years with this company

The golden child doesn't even have a lot of work to do cause their work keeps getting reassigned cause they keep doing it wrong. They recently tried giving more of his work to someone and that person said no so now he's been on a 2 week long temper tantrum.

I just left my Director job for a VP job at another company. For two years I've had no identitied growth path. "You report a a VP, what can we do?" Yet there are VP's reporting to VP's all over the sales organization. As soon as I submitted notice suddenly they were scrambling to say they could make it happen. High performers are taken for granted. They don't think you'll leave. When you do they panic.

Once you realize this, you can go into your next job with a game plan. Do less and say more. Talk up the team, your accomplishments, the goals, etc etc and literally just do less. Works even better than performing at a higher level.

Same. Mediocre Mike gets special recognition for not letting the world burn down while he covered a role for a whopping two weeks. Meanwhile I do the same job for 6 months and see absolutely nothing for it

my colleague got promoted to FTE from contractor (he had been there 3 years and the team would have rooted if anyone else got promoted) almost immediately his performance dropped and he started taking hour and a half lunches (think call center - you cant do that it makes the next person late) and hes gonna ruin it for the rest of us... meanwhile im consistently high performing, great reviews internally and great CSATs, and am always back exactly on time.. I was late once while emailing the team and they called my contracting company.

Friend is working at the local grocery store. The new owner took away her produce manager position and gave it to someone with no experience. Produce sucks. He also pays new hires more than her, she has been thee for almost 10 years. Has her working as a manager but won't pay her manger pay. She's looking for a new job

Regardless of what the metric is measuring, it's interesting that going from 98% to 99% means half the remaining cases that you were not performing optimally are now being performed optimally. although it's less total, it's more statistically relevant that half of the work that you were doing that wasn't perfect is now perfect.
