This is ridiculous. Family is too important and time on this Earth is too damn short!!! YTA

It’s showing that what’s important to you is not spending time with your family, but who hosts. I don’t know any family where every single person host something. There are some people who just aren’t good at it and don’t do it. Forcing someone to host and then saying you can never celebrate holidays with your family because you’re not hosting is a choice. You can make that choice, but is that the type of person you want to be? I could not imagine doing that to someone. Is she annoying? Yes does that mean that you’re never going to spend a holiday with your daughter because of that? That seems like a nasty thing to do to someone.

NTA. You told her what would happen if she didn't host. You're simply keeping your word. That's what a parent should do.

So everyone is investing time, money, dedication, and love in the family and then there’s Clara agreeing to host a holiday then changing her mind last minute every time leaving people scrambling and then mooching off of them

Why are the parents not hosting? That’s the real question. Why do they force kids to rotate?

Not everyone is a hosting person and hosting is expensive

she doesn't have to host. she's not good at planning. you could make her do the preparations at your instead and help clean up after.

Maybe she’s uncomfortable hosting and doesn’t want to do it.

NTA the consequences were discussed and now maybe she'll be straight forward and just admit to never hosting and gets assigned something else...mom may have to accept that too this one isn't hosting

NTAH! You told her the consequences. She didn’t believe you! Now she can make her own holiday dinner for just herself and her family.

If parents want family get togethers they should host it every time. Disinviting your daughter is disgraceful and a good way to sever the relationship. I’m a parent and I host every time. Someday that’ll be bestowed upon her kids to do the same.

95% YTA in my opinion
Is the daughter single? Has a partner or kids? That could really put a huge factor there. A single house income having to host for an entire family? Sounds really stupid. This is clearly not working for her and instead of letting it go or changing the rules they just stopped inviting her
How about everyone rotate houses but EVERYONE contributes to EVERY holiday instead of someone hosting alone
I'm too Latina for this srs

I have mixed feelings about this one. Not everyone has host/hostess duties in them. You’d rather not see your child than let them not host? I can’t imagine my mother making me either host or not come. Because she wouldn’t. I would love to host but my mother just wouldn’t do that. Nice family you have there. You really have your priorities straight.

My husband and I spend countless hours of preparation, and entirely fund the Thanksgiving dinner for our kids and extended family. Worth it! I’m so happy to spend time with them all. I’m just glad they attend.

Daughter is the AH, HOWEVER… some people just suck at hosting and don’t like doing it. I’d rather have it an my house because I enjoy bringing everyone together than to have a half-assed gathering hosted by someone who hates it that won’t make it nice. So just exclude her from hosting, EVER. But, in lieu of hosting then maybe make her contribution monetary or bringing more food/supplies. There is a reasonable compromise here, and she clearly doesn’t want to host but wants to be part of the family gathering. If she doesn’t want to contribute in another manner, then you can cut her off altogether.
