There is no such law from the Supreme Court that says state police can conduct safety checks. The cop lied.

How in the actual f did the court rule these stops legal? No cause for the stop? Reminiscent of 1930’s Germany, papers please. Perhaps a bit of downsizing of police is in order if they can waste time on these blanket stops

there's no legal justification for the stop and to ask for ID. it's not a stop and ID state. they can ask questions like a dui checkpoint but you don't have to answer them.

There is no famous Michigan Supreme Court decision called Michigan v. Miller that authorizes suspicionless sobriety roadblocks. What he is reaching for is almost certainly Sitz.
Two different Sitz cases, opposite results:
1. U.S. Supreme Court — Michigan Department of State Police v. Sitz (1990) Sobriety checkpoints do not violate the federal Fourth Amendment.
2. Michigan Supreme Court — Sitz v. Department of State Police (1993) After the case came back to Lansing, the state court said those same checkpoints do violate Article 1, Section 11 of the Michigan Constitution. Suspicionless “stop every car” sobriety lanes are banned in Michigan.

There is no safety checks and the reason they keep doing these things is because there is no consequences to them violating your rights

so you all think that road side check are bad until a drunk drive run into some just going home and kills them . I am so glad and I never have a problem show them my license. Yes I know it is your right not to show ID. This is just how I feel about roadside check. but everyone has their own way of handling it.
