ICT Dealing Range Theory | Liquidity + Dealing Range = High Accuracy | Smart Money’s Technique In ICT Smart Money Concepts, the Dealing Range is the price range that Smart Money uses to engineer liquidity, create imbalance, and build the narrative for the next major move. It is simply the range between a significant Swing High and Swing Low, used to understand premium/discount pricing, liquidity, and where institutional orders are sitting. 1. What Is a Dealing Range? A Dealing Range (DR) is defined by two points: 1. A Swing High (or a high of a higher timeframe move) 2. A Swing Low These two levels create the boundaries that Smart Money trades within before breaking out. Inside this DR, the market: Creates liquidity above the Swing High and below the Swing Low Forms internal structure Produces Fair Value Gaps (FVG) Creates Order Blocks (OB) Sweeps liquidity to fuel expansion So the DR gives you context, narrative, and bias. 2. How to Identify the Dealing Range You mark: The most recent significant Swing High The most recent significant Swing Low This becomes your high–low boundary. Then divide the range into: Premium Zone (above 50%) – where Smart Money prefers to sell Discount Zone (below 50%) – where Smart Money prefers to buy This 50% is usually calculated with the Fibonacci 50% level. 3. Why Dealing Range Is Important The Dealing Range helps you identify: ✔ Bias Are we in premium (sell zone) or discount (buy zone)? ✔ Liquidity Targets Is the market hunting: Buy-side liquidity (above DR high)? Sell-side liquidity (below DR low)? ✔ Manipulation Zones Sweeps commonly occur at both ends of the range. ✔ Fair Value Gaps The midpoint (50%) is often where FVGs align. 4. How Smart Money Uses the Dealing Range Smart Money typically: 1. Sets the Range – identifies the high and low 2. Sweeps one side of the range 3. Rebalances via FVG or OB 4. Targets the opposite side Example sequence: Price sweeps the DR High (take buy-side liquidity) Then shifts structure (MSS/CHoCH) Retraces into a premium OB Targets the DR Low This is the classic ICT model. 5. Trading the Dealing Range A. Buy Setup (Discount) Look for buys when: Price is below 50% In discount After sweeping sell-side liquidity MSS or CHoCH confirms reversal Entry from Demand OB / FVG B. Sell Setup (Premium) Look for sells when: Price is above 50% In premium After sweeping buy-side liquidity MSS/CHoCH occurs Entry from Supply OB / FVG 6.
