@taptheorybjj: If I had to build a complete no-gi game around just five guards, this is my list: 5. Closed Guard Still one of the safest and most reliable guards in BJJ. Great control, plenty of submissions—but without collars and sleeves, I think it loses some of what makes it so dangerous in the gi. 4. X-Guard Once you get underneath someone, their base becomes your problem to solve. Great for controlling both legs, creating off-balances, and forcing sweeps. 3. K-Guard This is where modern no-gi starts getting weird 😂. Sweeps, backside entries, leg attacks—one good entry can create a ton of problems. 2. Butterfly Guard Simple concept, ridiculously deep game. Inside position, elevation, wrestling up, redirects—it gives you answers against a lot of different styles. 1. Half Guard 🐐 I’m taking half guard. Sweep, wrestle up, enter the legs, take the back. There are so many different games you can build from one position, and it works against almost every style of passer. I already know somebody is going to hate this list 😭 What’s your top no-gi guard? And what did I rank way too high or too low? Good no-gi isn’t just knowing a bunch of guards. It’s knowing how to connect positions and make the right decision when the first option disappears.
