FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION 74.2% of NPP Delegates Tip Eugene Boakye Antwi to Win October 3 General Secretary Election — UG Research Accra, September 17, 2026 — A research study conducted by lecturers of the University of Ghana, Legon, has found that a majority of surveyed New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates expect Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi to win the party’s National General Secretary election scheduled for October 3, 2026. The research, led by Dr. Chris Atadika, examined the NPP National General Secretary race. According to the findings, when respondents were asked, “Which candidate do you think will win the General Secretary position come October 3?”, 74.2% (657 out of 889 respondents) identified Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi. Incumbent General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua was identified by 25.1% (223 respondents), while Sylvester Tetteh was identified by 0.7% (6 respondents). The report cautioned that the figures reflect the expectations of surveyed respondents and should not be presented as an independent prediction of the election outcome. The study also reported the following findings: Most Preferred Candidate: Eugene Boakye Antwi — 76.6%; Justin Frimpong Kodua — 23.1%. * Candidate Respondents Believe Can Help the NPP Win in 2028: Eugene Boakye Antwi — 60.1%; Justin Frimpong Kodua — 39.2%. * Name Recognition: 82.7% of respondents mentioned Eugene Boakye Antwi when asked to identify candidates contesting the position, compared with 13% for Justin Frimpong Kodua. Respondents also identified good communication skills and boldness (14.3%), the ability to help secure victory in 2028 (11.3%), and the ability to unify the party (9.7%) among the key characteristics they consider important for the General Secretary position. The study was conducted among 889 NPP stakeholders, with the researchers reporting 100% awareness of the General Secretary race among respondents.
