When we heard the tirst tew rounds of gunshots, we knew IMMEDIATELY we were being attacked. We followed protocol, locked the doors, turned off the lights, went under the desk and started praying with our entire heart and soul. Praying the first graders downstairs in the playground would make it to safety quickly, praying everyone in the mosque would make it out alive, praying that if we were killed, it wouldn't hurt, praying that it all would just STOP. We knew our door locks were no match to automatic weapons. That any moment we could be sprayed with hundreds of bullets by the second. We survived every parents worst nightmare, every child that made it to our safety zone, the 7th day Adventist church, was a the biggest victory, and when we found out all the students and staff survived, I buckled to my knees in gratitude, while also devastated that we knew of one casualty for sure, Brother Amin, the best most amazing, most vigilant security police officer anyone could ever ask for. We walked past his martyred body, we were not warned when we exited the mosque. It's an image seared in my brain, that at this moment I feel I will never ever ever recover from. We had just spoken that morning, brother Amin knew the ins and outs of my life and made a point to always check on me, make sure l was okay, see if I needed anything. He was the best start to every morning. I love you forever Brother Amin Abdullah, the truthful servant of Allah as his name translates. And Abul Ezz and brother Nader, two REAL MEN, who died to protect us, they didn't run away out of fear. Brother Nader's wife, our kindergarten teacher Mrs khairat's husband, heard the danger and ran to protect his wife and all the children. These were the bravest MEN we could've asked for. There's no repaying them for saving us.
