@jennifercarynbrand: For years parents were told to delay introducing allergens. It sounded protective. Truth: Delaying introduction caused a global rise in childhood food allergies. Modern research has completely reversed this guidance. The evidence is now clear. Early introduction of common allergens, around 4 to 6 months of age (same time a baby starts solids), trains the immune system to recognize food proteins as safe and builds tolerance. Delaying introduction does the opposite. Here is what the research shows specifically. Infants who avoid common allergens for their entire first year show significantly higher rates of allergic sensitization by age one. The landmark LEAP study showed that early peanut introduction in high-risk infants reduced peanut allergy development by 81 percent compared to avoidance. The EAT study showed similar findings across multiple allergens. For babies with eczema the risks are even higher. A compromised eczema skin barrier allows food proteins to contact the immune system through the skin before the baby has ever eaten the food. That route of exposure, through broken skin rather than through the gut, builds sensitization not tolerance. Early oral introduction counteracts this by teaching the immune system the correct response to those proteins through the right pathway. Every month of allergen avoidance in a baby with eczema and no confirmed food allergies is a month the immune system is missing the window to learn tolerance correctly. This is not fringe science. This is current medical consensus that most parents of eczema babies are still not hearing. Comment BOOK and I'll send you the link to schedule an Eczema and Skin Case Audit. Your child's specific case, clinical direction and next steps you can use right away. Save this so you can find it again later. Share it with any parent of an eczema baby who has been avoiding allergens out of fear. PS. Follow me so that my DMs go to your inbox.
