Lord Shiva is one of the most revered and complex deities in Hinduism. He is part of the Trimurti, along with Brahma (the creator) and Vishnu (the preserver). Shiva is known as the destroyer and transformer — not in a negative sense, but as a force of renewal, spiritual transcendence, and liberation. ⸻ 🔱 WHO IS LORD SHIVA? • Names: Mahadeva, Shambhu, Rudra, Bholenath, Neelkanth, Nataraja, Pashupati, Adiyogi, etc. • Nature: He is both formless (Nirguna) and with form (Saguna). He represents pure consciousness. • Consort: Devi Parvati (also known as Shakti, Durga, Kali). • Children: Ganesha (remover of obstacles), Kartikeya (god of war). • Mount (Vahana): Nandi (the bull). • Abode: Mount Kailash. ⸻ 🕉️ ORIGIN (Birth of Shiva) Shiva is not born like mortal beings. He is Aja (unborn) and Swayambhu (self-created). In some Puranas: • In the Shiva Purana, he is described as the eternal, infinite consciousness that existed even before creation. • In Linga Purana, it is said the Shiva Linga (symbol of Shiva) appeared as a massive infinite pillar of fire. • In Skanda Purana, Shiva emerges from the cosmic Nada (sound) and Bindu (point of energy). He is beyond time and is not subject to birth or death. ⸻ ☠️ IS SHIVA IMMORTAL? Yes. Shiva is Chiranjeevi (immortal). He embodies Mahakaal — the Lord of Time — and hence transcends death. While he causes the dissolution of the universe (Pralaya), he himself is eternal. ⸻ 🕺 FORMS OF SHIVA 1. Rudra – Fierce form. 2. Nataraja – Cosmic dancer who performs the Tandava (dance of destruction). 3. Ardhanarishvara – Half-man, half-woman form (Shiva + Parvati), symbolizing balance of masculine and feminine. 4. Dakshinamurthy – The divine teacher or guru. 5. Bhairava – Terrifying form associated with annihilation. 6. Lingam – Symbolic representation of his formless aspect. 📜 MANTRAS & SLOKAS 1. Panchakshari Mantra “ॐ नमः शिवाय” Translation: I bow to Lord Shiva. This is the most powerful and widely used Shiva mantra. 2. Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra (For healing and overcoming death) “ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात्॥” We meditate on the three-eyed One, who permeates and nourishes all. May He liberate us from death, for the sake of immortality. 3. Shiva Gayatri Mantra “ॐ तत् पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात्॥” 4.
