I feel sorry that this is how you felt growing up, Rabia. 🌸 I can only speak from my own experience, but I was also restricted from a lot of things as a child and, now that I’m an adult, I’m actually grateful to my parents for many of those boundaries. Of course, there is a difference between genuinely controlling or harmful behaviour and parents simply trying to protect and guide their children. Looking back, I can see that a lot of what my parents did came from fear of us going down the wrong path, even if I didn’t always understand it at the time. Now that I’m raising two daughters myself, I understand my mum so much more. There are things I once thought were “too strict” that I now completely understand from a mother’s perspective. You want to protect your children, you worry about who they mix with, the environments they are exposed to and the choices that could affect their future. Pakistani parenting certainly isn’t perfect, and everyone’s childhood experience is different, but I also don’t think our entire upbringing should automatically be labelled as controlling or messed up simply because our parents gave us boundaries. Sometimes you only understand where your parents were coming from when you find yourself responsible for raising children of your own. 🌸

Stop creating something that doesn’t exist!! Remember our parents struggled and sacrificed. You have given a great example - Nikkah without parents permission.. how does that work?

uneducated parents ( Both worldly and religious angle ) , communication gaps between the kids-parents, lack of friendship vibe amongst the family, these issues always pop up.

Women like this love to fu** up a decent honest home where there are no issues with everyone listening to each other or those with some life experience to guide others. All because the “think” they got a point about some shit.

Just because this happened to you doesn’t mean it happens to everyone. If your parents or family in Pakistan were not a good example, that doesn’t mean everyone is like that. Please keep your views to yourself and stop acting as an ambassador on behalf of everyone.

You don’t need to ask a narcissist permission they want to show they are superior in the household when in reality no one will even speak to them these narcissists have a face in the community they want to keep up with they can keep fooling people. Hero outside and zero in the home

Exactly — having to ask permission for even your own small, necessary choices is what ruins it. It steals your say over your own life, and that’s exactly what happened to you💛
