@filmsofun: The Inhwa School case in Gwangju, South Korea, was one of the country’s most shocking cases involving the ab*se of students with disabilities. During the early 2000s, several deaf students at the school were subjected to se*ual and physical ab*se by some administrators, teachers, and staff members. The case became public in 2005, but the initial court sentences were heavily criticized because of weaknesses in the law and problems with the legal process. The publication of the novel Dogani in 2009 and, later, the film Silenced (2011), directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, brought renewed public attention to the case and created strong pressure for legal reform. This public outrage contributed to the introduction of legal reforms known as the “Dogani Law,” and the school was eventually closed in 2011. #inhwaschool #silenced
