@trfatieduconsultant: Schools are opening soon, and many leaders are busy preparing classrooms, timetables, uniforms and learning materials. But there is another preparation that can easily be overlooked: Preparing the people who will deliver the school’s vision. Your first staff meeting should not be only about timetables and duties. It should set the professional tone for the entire term. 1. 🎯 “THIS TERM MUST HAVE CLEAR PRIORITIES.” Teachers need to know what the school is focusing on. Is it: Improving reading? Raising academic performance? Improving learner discipline? Increasing retention? Strengthening parent communication? Improving attendance? When everything is a priority, nothing receives enough attention. 2. 👩🏫 “PROFESSIONALISM STARTS BEFORE YOU ENTER THE CLASSROOM.” Professionalism is reflected in: Punctuality Preparation Communication Dress and conduct Respect for colleagues Confidentiality Responsibility Teachers should understand that professional conduct is part of the school’s reputation. 3. 📚 “DO NOT ENTER CLASS WITHOUT PREPARATION.” A teacher should know: What learners are expected to learn How the lesson will be delivered Which resources are needed How understanding will be checked Which learners may need additional support Teaching should be intentional, not improvised every day. 4. ❤️ “EVERY LEARNER DESERVES TO BE SEEN.” Some learners will return confident. Others may be struggling academically, socially or emotionally. Teachers should be encouraged to observe, support and appropriately refer learners who need additional help. A learner should not become invisible simply because they are quiet or struggling. 5. 📞 “BE CAREFUL HOW YOU SPEAK TO PARENTS.” A parent may remember how you made them feel long after they forget the exact information you gave them. Staff should communicate with: Respect Patience Clarity Professionalism Even when handling difficult situations. 6. 🤝 “WE ARE ONE TEAM.” A school cannot grow when departments compete against each other. Teachers, administrators, support staff and leadership must understand their different responsibilities while working toward one institutional goal. Teamwork is not agreeing on everything. It is working professionally toward the same purpose. 7. 📊 “ACCOUNTABILITY IS NOT PUNISHMENT.” Teachers should know what is expected of them and how their work will be monitored. Clear accountability helps answer: What was expected? What was achieved? What needs improvement? What support is required? Accountability becomes constructive when it is combined with guidance and support. 8. 🚫 “DO NOT NORMALISE THE WRONG THINGS.” Every school develops habits. Some are healthy. Others slowly damage the institution. Late-coming, gossip, poor preparation, disrespect, ignoring learners' needs or careless communication should not become: “That's how things are done here.” What leadership tolerates eventually becomes part of the culture. 9. 🌱 “DEVELOP YOURSELF.” A good teacher should not stop learning after obtaining qualifications. Encourage staff to improve their: Teaching methods Assessment practices Communication skills Classroom management Subject knowledge Digital skills Professional conduct A growing teacher contributes to a growing school. 10. 🔥 “THIS TERM, LET US DO BETTER THAN LAST TERM.” Do not begin the term with fear. Begin with purpose, clarity and commitment. Ask every staff member: “What is one thing I will personally improve this term?” Because institutional improvement begins with individual responsibility. 🔑 FINAL THOUGHT Before learners return, prepare your staff emotionally, professionally and strategically. A school may have beautiful buildings, excellent marketing and good learning materials—but the daily experience of learners and parents is largely shaped by the people working inside that school. Prepare the people, strengthen the systems, and the results will follow. TR FATI EDUCATION CONSULTANT 📞 School consultations & staff training: 0704349605 #edit #openingschools #newterm #fypp
