My grandpa died before I was born I had the honour of attending the 2026 Memorial Ceremony for the Nanyang Volunteer Drivers and Mechanics. This memorial holds a deeply personal meaning for me, as my grandfather, the late Mr Yang Ma Fu (杨妈富), was one of the Nanyang volunteers who served on the Burma Road during the Second World War. I thank the Kwong Tong Cemetery Kuala Lumpur management for its efforts in preserving their history, translating and sharing these materials, and allowing more people to learn about their stories. As a descendant, this was my first time learning more about my grandfather through this work. It is a reminder of how important it is to preserve our history and pass on the values and lessons from one generation to the next. #HannahYeoh #hanayo
