@expedition.ola: And THIS is why I don’t like giving updates about things that are going to happen😂 because by the time they’re supposed to happen… the plan will probably have changed! Only a few hours after yesterday’s update, that entire plan went out the window. It had been just over a week since Birdie’s last procedure to close her tail incision. Everything was looking healthy, it just wasn’t making much progress. So her medical team and us thought maybe getting her back with us, lifting her spirits and giving her a change of scenery could be exactly what she needed. But apparently we jinxed it😭 because her wound fully opened AGAIN. Now I want to put this into perspective because yes, this is sad and frustrating… BUT BIRDIE IS 2/3 OF THE WAY HEALED!!! Both of her major leg amputation incisions are fully closed and healthy❤️🩹 This ONE freaking incision is the problem, and we are going to keep fighting until we figure it out. The hospital that has loved and cared for Birdie through all of this gave her the most beautiful sendoff🥹😭 Everyone cheering her on as Birdie went flying down the hallway looking SO proud of herself🥲 They transferred her directly instead of waiting for us because once the wound opened again, they wanted to get her onto a wound VAC as quickly as possible. So our girl is now safely at a specialty hospital, and hooked up to this new treatment🏥 Because she had to be admitted through their emergency department and immediately start this level of specialty care, I’m not gonna lie… day one came with a really big bill. If anyone wants to help us keep fighting for her, we would appreciate it more than you know💗 This journey has definitely gone on a lot longer and become a lot more expensive than we ever expected, but we’re not giving up now!! And as I’m putting together Birdie’s video, I KNOW just how many of us are not done fighting for this girl. If everyone who loves her contributes even something small, together it really can make a HUGE difference in helping us cover her ongoing care. We’d be forever grateful!!🫶🏼 By this evening, we will be hugging Birdie!

I guess he should have been left the way he was happiest with you. Wound vac therepy is painful and leaves the most harmful bacteria inside

As a surgical nurse who works with VACs all the time, I have seen the miricles they can work. I hope Birdie has some great luck with it too and a quick recovery.

These comments are so discouraging. They have done EVERYTHING for birdie and chose the medical course of action that seemed best. There was no way to know her tail wouldn’t heal. Please keep giving Birdie all of the love she deserves ❤️❤️❤️❤️love you birdie

Why did they need to amputate her tail? Her tail seemed to be fine?

I don't usually write anything but seeing these comments saying "you should have left her alone as she was. She's like this now because of you", I got to say... these people picked up a dog from the streets and have tried to do good by her. No one knows the right choice when faced with difficult choices where there's never really an amazing outcome. They made the decision they believed was best with the information they had at the time. Now it's easy to say these things but they don't help! Especially the people that have helped her and are themselves wondering if they made the right choice. They acted with what they knew at the time!
In a way, this beautiful dog went from living in the streets to having millions of people loving her and having a team of people taking care of her!
Whatever the outcome is, she got to know kindness and love!
So let's continue to spread love to this team and these two people who make the world a better place! ❤️

I always thought it wasn't a good idea to subject her to surgery and the added stress of the amputation. I also know that their intention was always to see Birdie well, but it's truly sad to see that she still hasn't recovered.

People are sick in the comments. You two are INCREDIBLE. You have given birdie more love than she has known in her entire life. And you are STILL giving her that love.

siempre fui de la idea que era tan innecesario contarle sus piernitas 😭 ella ya estaba acostumbrada pero fuera de eso ni siquiera ha podido volver con uds por que siempre se complica 😭

Of course knowing what we know now, amputation was not the best option. But if you left her alone, she would eventually get infections. So you made decisions based on what knowledge you had then. Thank you for that.
