I’m at 13:1 on my LS3. I wouldn’t go over 6-7 psi but it’s a street car so 🤷🏽♂️

I’d rather run a 12:1 boosted 1000hp set up then a 9:1-10:1 boosted set up at 1000hp the 12:1 will live longer because it’ll make the same hp for less boost it’s all in the tune and fueling to keep the higher compression alive

540 cid. 13 to 1 static compression. 29lbs boost on e85r. 2593hp. makes sure tune is on point. higher compression spools the turbos much faster.

I’m running a LS3 with a small blower friendly cam, LSA head gaskets, ARP bolts not studs and a 2650 blower, at 18 psi it was pretty spicy but stock ring gaps etc I took it down to 11 psi, I was expecting it to bend rods or pinch a ring, been that way for over a year now on PULP it’s surprisingly good

Can’t give it a lot of timing tune is critical I think

It depends on the set up ….weight of vehicle what your doing with it how hard your tryna push it ect I perfer 12:1 over 9-10:1 set ups simply bc we can run lower boost and make same power

Chris Krumm :
The main thing is you don’t need as much boost to make the same power.

Couldn’t it be a lot safer set up to run a little higher compression but run less boost and not have to run your engine as hard to achieve a similar outcome or is it safer to run lower compression and more boost?

11.5:1 on a stock iron 6.0 lq9 on e85 north or 30lbs of boost with an S488 turbo. ran into issues with rod after 3 years

25 to 30 pounds of boost 11-1 compression on the 85 all it does is make your tuning window smaller

I was going to give you an uncle Rodney stitch. But yeah usually higher compression ratios under boost is limited by fuel. E85 on a 13:1 with boost will be fine. If you have a target hp number. It will be easier to achieve it with lower boost under higher compression. Because volumetric efficiency increases. And there's less of a void to fill. In extreme HP cases like Top Fuel. Compression is lowered to make room for fuel. So the engine does not hydrolock.

High compression is relative and it also comes down to fuel and goals. Sometimes the compression isn’t worth the limited calibration window

More compression just means you can run less boost to make the same hp. Cylinder pressure is cylinder pressure. Fuel and timing are what’s going to let the engine live or die.

All comes down to what fuel you have as the HP limitation per ci. I daily drove a 4.6 2v at 11.5:1 at 680 wheel on pump 93 for just shy of 60k miles of sheer abuse. Change your dynamic will let you run more boost at the expense of back pressure on anything remotely close to being responsive. If that same setup was on E85 with a sensor I’d have been comfortable going up to around 1000ish if the transmission to do it in a ford didn’t cost more than the car itself. My current shitbox is 9.2:1 with 32-36 shoved in it on e85 making just north of 1100 wheel through an unlocked 400 and Dana 60 and it’s done it for 4 seasons and 15k street miles at that power level with pump E on a 260k miles SBE gen4. The most radical I’ve built for a customer was a F2 charged C16 496 BBC that was 13.6:1 and ran 22lbs at peak, that was a dedicated race car that got tear downs every 3 events for health checks and made 1800.

E85, methanol, whatever magic fuel you want to run doesn’t help with the limited tuning window you have with high compression forced induction engines. Yes, It can be done, but your gains are super limited within that small tuning window that it’s not worth the hassle. Either drop the static compression under 11:1 or run it naturally aspirated up to 15:1 on methanol.

You say you can’t make over “X” Psi of boost. That is totally irrelevant. Every intake/turbo combo will make a different boost number. You can make 1k horsepower with 20psi or 1k horsepower with 40psi depending on your setup.
