@cbsnewstexas: Last Sunday, Jack Fink asked James Talarico about his 2021 bill to sharply reduce statewide emissions and its potential impact on the oil and gas industry and jobs. #EyeOnPolitics

why is global warming so hard for people to understand? why does science scare people? why is it so hard to listen to people that study this for a living?

This specific bill is exactly why voters should pay attention to what Talarico actually proposes, not just how he packages himself. HB 2206 called for statewide greenhouse gas reductions and a government directed climate framework for Texas. That may appeal to voters who want aggressive climate policy, but in a state whose economy, jobs, tax base, and energy infrastructure are deeply tied to oil and gas, those policies deserve serious scrutiny. Texans should be asking what the real cost would be to energy jobs, electricity prices, reliability, and the broader state economy before importing climate policies that sound a whole lot more like California than Texas.

I think the extinction of the human race due to greenhouse emissions will also hurt Texas’s all-important oil and gas sector, too. Wouldn’t it?

even if you don't believe climate change is real, why would you be against cleaner forms of electricity generation and cleaner air?

Imagine being a shill for the oil and gas industry that is actively suppressing efforts to keep our air clean. Shameful.

People thinking that green energy isn’t the future are like me when I still bought cassette tapes because I thought CDs were a trend and wouldn’t replace the cassette tape. 😂😂😂

More restrictions means processing costs go up and who pays for that? The consumer, so how is this guy helping Texans.

Oil and gas will always have a use in this country. Just because renewables are being used doesn’t change that. There is plenty of demand for it in our country and through exports. That statement the reporter made is pure fear mongering.

is it just me or is every conversation about gas/oil vs renewable energy missing the component of it’s going to be a slow transition to ween off of oil and gas? and wasn’t a major component of the argument for the green new deal that people who work in the oil/gas industries have opportunities to get trained in working in renewable energy?
