Nigerians have often been among the first to show up when other African nations need support. But while we were busy carrying the continent, we sometimes forgot to carry ourselves. Today, Nigeria faces serious challenges at home, while some Nigerians are being mocked, blamed or looked down upon by people from other African countries. This is not about hating Africa or abandoning our neighbours. African unity remains important. But perhaps it is time for the Giant of Africa to put more energy into strengthening its own foundation its economy, infrastructure, security, institutions and the welfare of its people. You cannot permanently carry everyone while your own house is falling apart. Nigeria can continue to support Africa.
