Opportunity comes but once” is not a biblical principle for justifying adultery. Not every opportunity is an opportunity from God. Some opportunities are tests of character. Calling a married man “the one good man you were destined to have” is also nonsense. If he is already married, he has already made a covenant with another woman. You cannot turn another woman’s husband into your ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’ and then call the affair wisdom. And the advice to be faithful to a married man for one year, then congratulate him for ‘doing a good job’ and walk away, is even more contradictory. Faithful to what? A relationship that should never have started? That is not wisdom; that is simply giving a sinful relationship a respectable vocabulary. If your only way to find a “good man” is to take someone else’s husband, then the problem is not that opportunities are scarce,the problem is the standard being used to define an opportunity. A genuinely good man is not someone you have to steal, secretly share, or borrow from another woman. Sometimes the greatest wisdom is knowing that an opportunity must be rejected because accepting it will cost you your integrity.
