yeah thats how insurance works. insurance only pays for the UNEXPECTED due to a NAMED PERIL. if you don’t maintain your house, like your roof and you have a “leak” it will NOT be covered. insurance is NOT supposed to fix your house because its old and then something major happens. that’s literally not how it works and never has.

We pay insurance for no reason when it comes to a house because they cover what they want and charge hefty prices on top of what you have to pay when something happens. But they make you have it.

I literally had the same issue with American home shield insurance. I fought like crazy. " maintenance on my pipes" they called it. how does one do maintenance on pipes that are behind walls. make that make sense.

I mean that is fair. Home insurance is for accidents not to fix 60yr old pipes. Does your auto insurance fix used tires? No. Have to maintain it, its not insurance responsability to fix your house in perpituity. You want insurance to be 20x higher?

Allstate is the reason we lost our home after a house fire. It took them a year to finalize the claim because the adjuster didn’t think it was that bad and wanted to just put kilz over charred wood in the attic. We went through 6 contractors. All said the house had to be demolished and rebuilt. When they finally did approve the full claim, then the mortgage company saw it as a liability and wanted the work to be done 50% of the way before paying the insurance money out. We didn’t have 150k. We chose to let it foreclose and they used the insurance money to pay off the mortgage. We walked away with a clean slate. You are NEVER in good hands with Allstate.
