JPS💙 :
This was simply racist. And to pile on, Doug Eddings chose to wear the number 88. Do with that (dog whistle) what you will.

While I’m absolutely disgusted by this and 100% support that pitcher, I’m also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, which means putting a Cardinals hat on my head would probably cause me to instantly combust. I will wear my Cubs hat like that in solidarity.

FINALLY a reason that makes me proud to be from Missouri! The STL Cards manager evidently has a large set of cojones

Umpire on a power trip. He should be fined at the bare minimum

Thank you for talking about this on your platform. Racism is not okay. Microaggressions needs to be called out, always, before they lead to bigger issues.

the Umpire singling out that kid was entirely racially motivated. there is nothing anyone can do or say to convince me otherwise. that umpire deserves to be fired.

Thank you for supporting St. Louis! Who knew a hat would unite the baseball masses? Actually it’s about the blatant racism and tone policing but you know.

I’m born, raised & live in St. Louis, I would not be surprised if the whole team and ALL of STL doesn’t start to do something during every remaining game of the season just to back up our pitcher! #BIRDS #STL

I am a Cubs fan and was so angry about that as it had NOTHING to do with the hat. That was racism, plain and simple.

I just watched this and I am just floored. That umpire has some big balls to say “his field”. As a Cub fan, the Cardinal coach had the right to let loose on that Ump.

Also Eddy missed a call at the plate that was clearly an out but he called safe! Even the announcers said how could he miss that from his angle. Was told maybe down on purpose to get back at Cardinal manager for yelling at him. After the game Eddy said the Rockies hitter asked about his hat. The Rockies player said he said nothing and was confused like everyone else.
