@youthpastorryan: MGM is having a bad week, but this is a very common scam just normally to a lesser degree. A reminder cyber attacks happen to every level of society.

The irony that the helpdesk is usually part of the IT department and they are the ones that send out the incessant social engineering, phishing, scam training videos. 😂

I work at a bank and tell people this DAILY. You don’t want to use a debit card, you don’t want to use online banking, you refuse to make my job easier and YOUR life easier, out of fear. Yet you get one phone call saying you owe a company, you don’t even use, $5000 and you LET THEM ON YOUR PC…..

90% of the show Leverage which was the most popular criminal show where it had a master hacker showed access getting gained through one or more of the members either breaking in or grifting/conning their way in. Doesn’t matter how good you are if you don’t have some way to access the servers.

What IT department gives you a password over the phone? From my experience you’re prompted for a new password on next login. I need more information on how that IT department screwed up.

This is why 2FA is important. Doesn’t matter if the password was reset, still need to authenticate with another app unless IT reset that too.

Helpdesk has always been a vulnerability, especially with remote work. How do you verify a person on the other end of the line is the actual employee? Physical helpdesk would do so via badge and picture. Remote? Impossible
