I’m obsessed with them. If I were very wealthy I would have someone make some on my property using the same old technique.

Specifically all over New England and they made them because they had to put all the stones they pulled out of the farmland

“Now they just have aura” sent me. As a fellow New Englander, I agree. Love seeing them all over the six states. Just showing our history 😂❤️

Do not move stone walls they are often boundary markers. My brother was a stonemason. A wealthy man had him move a stone wall and rebuild it when he was done. The town came saw what he had done and made him put it back.

They’re left behind from glaciers, farmers had no where to put them so they stacked them up on their land, more would come up every winter after the thaw and they’d continue to stack to get them out of the way. As time passed they made them more aesthetically pleasing and something more than rock piles. They didn’t always mark territory, it was essentially just to get them out of the way. Pretty unique geographical feature!

There's a book about it. I'm in the middle of a move so it's buried. But I'll find it.
