I lowkey feel like the fandom minimizes the genocide of the air nomads and Aangs guilt surrounding it. In his lifetime he felt he would never truly recover what was lost and that all that death was his doing. He would never see a familliar face from his early airbender childhood again. Theres no one he can talk too and say "remember in the air temple when...", he can't play Airbender games, he probably forgot stuff as he got older as well. Some people hated on him for trusting Taiga so easily but can you imagine the desperation? Knowing the family you lost has some piece of it remaining? Yes, he was irrational but that's the last thing I'd expect him to be when confronting the incineration of his people.

It’s devastating to think that Aang’s greatest regret would be something his mentor Monk Gyatso was desperately hoping for, that he was able to escape and survive the massacre. Not just for the world but for the boy he cherished deeply. I imagine he spent his last moments thinking of Aang hoping he was safe somehow, he knew he ran away probably hoping the fire nation wouldn’t find him.

The way I am sooo disappointed in Tagah. 😭 They could’ve been such great brothers after all. And seeing how happy Aang was to finally find Tagah and the staff, only for him to choose to become the last airbender all over again for the second time… that honestly hurts me even more. 😭💔

The punch is.. Aang is ashame of running away, of 'leaving' his people,and then losing them all... but, by doing that, he preserved all what their culture represents, he would have die there.. and the air nomads would have been gone forever, his choice, ended up saving not only the world,but was the reason his people was able to come back, even if he couldn't be there for that. Imagine been the last of your entire culture,noone to relate, noone to talk about things only you know... and the comments about him Trusting Tagga, is like complaining about Katara trusting Hamma... you don't think about that,the grief and hope can blind you.

People don't realize how depressing it is to lose your culture in architecture, beliefs, childhood, fashion, upbringing, meals, music, stories, and customs, sure characters like Katara suffer as well but she still has a majority of her culture and people with her, it's in fact heavily emphasized, she was also able to culturally connect with Northern or Swamp benders, and has the high chance of the water bending gene to come back in the south, Aang didn't have that :(

They didn’t even kill them all at once btw they set up traps that made it sound like other air nomads survived and ambushed the survivors who arrived and systematically hunted them down.
