Hey guys I’ve been seeing all the comments talking about how broken the Spanish is. 😭 I would like to confirm that all the future episodes following up will be in all English. I’m sorry if I offended those who are native Spanish speakers and hope everything can still be in good terms.

I know this isn’t even the main focus of the video, but since Spanish is my native language, I can’t help but feel a little bothered by this. The Spanish pronunciation is pretty poor. You can understand it at times, but parts like “Mom and Dad still haven’t come back from last night” are unintelligible, they sound like mumbling. The word “Escuela” isn’t even pronounced properly, it’s basically just mumbled, which is strange considering that “Español” is pronounced much better, even though the ñ doesn’t exist in the English alphabet. The pronunciation mistakes are concerning because, if you want to set your story in Spain, lines like “I know how to speak English, I just don’t want to” don’t feel believable. There are also mistakes in the subtitles. The translation of “sé hablar inglés” wouldn’t be “I can”, it would be closer to “I know how to speak English.” They’re mistakes, and they’re understandable considering this is an independent project, and I really appreciate the effort at least. But listening to a work set in Spain that doesn’t take its language seriously is a little frustrating. Fluency, pronunciation, and confidence are important, and they’re lacking in the few Spanish lines, as is the accent. Spain has a very distinctive and recognizable Spanish accent, so studying it and incorporating it into the story would be an incredible addition. This isn’t meant to be a harsh or destructive criticism. Many Spanish speakers make the effort to learn English out of necessity, you can learn Spanish out of appreciation for the culture, and I think that’s wonderful.
