use chemrevise, has all the notes you need by the spec since teacher notes can be vague and unreliable however notes imo are useless for chemistry, watch an allery chemistry video on the topic u didnt understand and use chatgpt to keep breaking down a concept for you over and over again until you understand it, then download the specification which you can find easily online, side by side using the spec and chem revise make flashcards on the topic ur learning and spam these until its muscle memory, doing a little everyday will instill it into ur memory long term, after ur confident with ur flashcards go onto PMT and download/print questions by topic and attempt these without looking at the mark scheme, then mark ur work honestly and this is the most important bit whatever you got wrong especially if its A01 you should turn it into a flashcard so if you ever see an A01 questions like that again in a future chemistry paper u will get it right, for more topic questions access tuition is also a great place for lots of question banks for chemistry, use ur teachers as a resource, they are there to help you, repeating this system for all ur topics is gonna get u the grades tryst, i came out of y12 with 3 A* predicteds in bio, chem, and psych, its hard at the beginning but as long as you put the work in by the time u reach ur exams u will have a system in place that makes things feel much easier

Start on the chem alevel paper 1 youtube video by science shorts and cover what youve learnt in the right detail, then try and get ahead for future topics so when you learn it in class youll have seen it before

I didn’t really get anything till late February, I was getting Us and Es and it genuinely had me crying, I do think you should start making flashcards because once I started doing that and going through the textbook for it it really helped to make things make sense, I did flashcards for a while, also learned from Allery chemistry and Machemguy (they’re for OCR a board) and I really recommend getting the calculations in A level chemistry by Jim Clark especially if you struggle with the mathsy part (and if you don’t do maths at A level already) but all this genuinely got me a B by the end of the year so I really think it’ll help

it's very understandable the gap is huge ! if you are struggling form the very strat it might be just the basics that are weak ! the first few modules introduce you to atomic structure and concepts like bonding ! I would highly recommend you rewatch a quick free science lesson Vidoe to refresh your gcse knowledge! because chem is all about having a strong foundational knowledge because everything is build up based on the small concepts ! so secure basic knowledge first and prioritize understanding re the than memorizing ! I recommend the Chemistry tutor on YouTube just tyoe his channel he is amazing at explaining

i will ALWAYS recommend the chemistry tutor, I don’t think I would’ve gotten my warwick chemistry place without those videos. I found allery chemistry helpful during acids and bases which is yr13, but other YouTubers might explain it differently which might help make it click

icl as a guy starting a level chem asw, my tip is to be ahead of your school. Chem is one of those subjects where it’s more knowledge heavy than practice heavy (unlike maths). My advice is that even if you do forget everything in your self study, when your school covers it, it won’t be alien to you yeah? It’s the human forgetting curve, once you repeat it a couple of times, it becomes more embedded into your memory. Also, if you haven’t got an 8/9 in your Chem GCSEs, consolidate your GCSE knowledge asw like mole calculations and all, cause this will also be the backbone to your A level chem. If u do that, and u stay somewhat consistent, with spaced repetition, ull get it I’d say. If not, drop it, trust me.

I do ocr chemistry year 13 rn at first it did feel like a lot to comprehend and so I would just summarise my entire module on an A3 page then realised it’s smaller than you think. Also the reason for chemistry’s grade boundaries being so high is literally cause the questions haven’t changed for years like exact same question structure year after year ngl so lowkey just practice exam questions.

I'd highly recommend watching Allery chemistry if you do AQA to give you a level of understanding or read chemrevise notes or save my exams, then do chemsheets to implement what you've learnt then do topic qs to see put it into practice and see what the questions are like. everyone will have different advice but please do something that works for you, because some things work better and worse for different people. the only way you know is to try and so start early and stsy consistent
